The Life of Irène Némirovsky, a French writer of Russian Jewish descent, reads like one of her own books. Irene was born in 1903 in Ukraine, the daughter of a Jewish banker and was raised by a French governess. After the October Revolution in 1917 she fled with her family to Paris, where Irène attended a literary science studies at the Sorbonne. Already at the age of eighteen, they start writing, and in 1929 they broke through with "David Golder. Also 'Le Bal' was a great success, the book was a year after appearing already filmed with Danielle Darrieux in the lead. Despite her success as a writer Némirovsky remained in France feel a stranger, partly due to the rising anti-Semitism. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II she fled with her husband and daughters to the countryside, where she continued to write until she was arrested and taken to Auschwitz in July 1942. There she died of typhus. After her death, her daughters Denise and Élisabeth roamed around with a suitcase full of manuscripts., you can download free movies online They thought it was mainly for notes and sketches, but decades later it turned out that there were complete novels in the case, including the unfinished "Suite Française," that 62 years after her death became a huge international success.
And international bestsellers are always interesting source material for a film. Similarly, "Suite Française" (2014) by British director Saul Dibb (The Duchess', 2008), translated to the big screen. 'Suite Française' reports on the exodus in June 1940, when waves of refugees left Paris region. Dibb and fellow screenwriter Matt Chapman moved the story to the picturesque village of Bussy, in the shadow of the French capital. The fate of all kinds of families, in all walks of life, become intertwined when the German army occupied the village. The lives of the villagers are in one blow on the head. They must now dance to the tune of the occupier? Not quite, but many do not bring against the military superiority of the Germans. Reluctantly makes haughty Madame Angel Lier (Kristen Scott Thomas) at her house one room left to provide the occupier shelter. She herself is unmoved by the German officer Bruno von Falk (Schoenaerts), but her daughter Lucille (Michelle Williams) becomes intrigued by this kind and sensitive German.
Of course, this friendship blossoms on a large forbidden love between the married Lucille and the Nazi nicest you could ever imagine. But "Suite Française" - in any case the book - has much more to offer than that. Different villagers all go their own way with the German occupation. The one trying to save his skin by collaborating, the other is intent on just the ultimate act of resistance. The gap between rich and poor here is remarkable; the more money you have, the less need seems to be to stand up for your principles. "Suite Française" has a cast to by removing a ring, with mostly European actors in strong roles (the actors who play a German accent and have the - originally English speaking - French characters speak generally civilized British we see for the ease but even the fingers ...). That is precisely why you wonder why it was necessary to Lucille as a voiceover to let explain the events. Like Michelle Williams with all her talent would need anyway ... The scenario is the weakest part of the film. This could be because Némirovsky intended the book into five parts to exist, but only two could finish. The romance between Lucille and Bruno will form the main part, while the other characters have a story to tell at least as interesting.
"Suite Française" is not a war that will turn your world upside down; in the long line of films with the Second World War as a backdrop, this is probably not one that will be all. Despite its poor script 'Suite Française' but made very solid, with beautiful scenery and fine music by Alexandre Desplat and a top cast that you do the imperfections of the film quickly forgotten.
