En allerderd: Wet Hot American Summer is een parodie/ode/hommage aan de zomerkamp-komedies uit de jaren 80, het decennium dat ik film ontdekte, en toen inderdaad vooral geïnteresseerd was in films als Weird Science en Up the Creek, de eerste film die ik meer dan vijf keer heb gezien ;) .
Ik heb echt keihard gelachen bij Wet Hot American Summer. Ik moet daarbij overigens wel toegeven dat ik ook hard lach om films als Dazed and Confused en Slackers. Je moet dus wel tegen die gruwelijk flauwe humor kunnen. Maar ik glimlach meteen weer als ik terugdenk aan de scène dat kampdirecteur Janeane Garofalo effe naar de stad moet, en een aantal werknemers heel graag mee wil. Ze zijn nog maar net in de stad, als ze al aan de alcohol gaan., you can  download free movies online Niet veel later roken ze ‘n jointje, en dan gaat het hard. Ze kopen coke in een steegje, en vrij snel daarna liggen ze uitgeteld in de gang en op een bank in één of ander crackhouse. Haha, mogelijk klinkt het zo wat raar, maar je weet wel meteen wat je kunt verwachten bij deze film. Wat ik overigens niet verwachtte, was de enorme gay-rol van Bradley Cooper, toch één van de stoerdere acteurs van dit moment. Als in: hij mocht Face spelen in de nieuwe The A-Team film. Dit is zijn speelfilmdebuut (de film komt uit 2001), en hij is óf zelf gay, of hij durfde direct al een behoorlijk gedurfde scène te spelen. Die andere debutante, Elizabeth Banks, toont hier ook haar enthousiasme om actrice te worden (okay, ze zat net hiervoor ook in een heeeeeeeeeeeel klein rolletje in de remake van Shaft), want ze tongt er wat op los met Paul Rudd. En zoals het in dit soort films betaamt, zit er inderdaad ook een scène in waarin een stuk of vijf meiden (waaronder Banks) in een halve bikini staan te huppelen in ondiep water, met twee glurende kwajongens in de bosjes…
Inderdaad: niet alleen de poster doet een 80-ies film vermoeden. Wat ik dus echter niet snap: waarom is deze film nooit in NL uitgebracht? Ik moest erover lezen in een interview met Paul Rudd over het slechte Dinner for Schmucks. Hij vertelde dat het allemaal ooit begon met Wet Hot American Summer
