The portrayal of sex is closely intertwined with the history of film. Already in the discovery phase of the medium was frantically experimented with playing (mostly) female nude. Yet this does not engaging drama. 'Love' starts off with a sex scene. The difficulty of this type of film is that it is often no more than a naked gimmick that loses its functionality for the benefit of a low-priced effect.
