The newspapers are full of news about it. Certainly in recent years, the problem seems to be getting bigger. Sinking boats, trucks full of people who do not survive the journey, rush to the Channel Tunnel, the situation is distressing. But what actually happens to the people who made the trip indeed bring to a successful conclusion? Manages them to build a new life in a different environment, devoid of family, without speaking the language? The will is there, but the law does not help. Once in the EU, free of the fear of persecution because of religion, political beliefs or sexual orientation, is waiting for the right papers a new obstacle to happiness. In documentary Carnotstraat 17 'Klara van Es paints a picture of a number of migrants in an old and dilapidated building at the Antwerp Carnotstraat have taken up residence.
Thus we see in intimate scenes the concerns of the Armenian Manoukyan family consisting of father, mother and two adorable daughters, aged three and five. Father Ara (38) suffered from health problems and is in a deadlock. He is still illegal, but he manages not only to get papers. The uncertainty is killing the family, but the love flies in your face. Ara still hopes that his children look forward to a better future. The scenes in which he is busy with his daughters are endearing and touching. A Tibetan family followed. Their biggest problem is that they have not yet acquired Belgian nationality. Only then should they return to Tibet, where they like to their family would visit. Meanwhile, they are trying to build a new life with all his might in Belgium. Enthusiastically, they throw themselves to learning the Dutch language (which means that you need to write a hundred times the 'j' or 'f'), or teach them how to deal with cleaners or floor cleaning machine. Whoever makes work of his career, the young Afghan Omar Mohamed, who has been quite a bit of speak Dutch and trained as a carpenter.you can download free movies online
Between this sentimental moments, we see interesting black and white images from the last destination of the property where these immigrants live. On Carnotstraat 17 was housed ever Ciné Rubens, the most modern cinema of Antwerp. Numerous premieres were held there, from "My Fair Lady" to "Doctor Zhivago." Celebrities strolled down the red carpet there, the drinks flowed and tickets were sold out weeks in advance. The contrast is great, but more than that (and the recordings are of interest to cinephiles) is not. The tranquil close-ups of the uprights that do not contribute to. The conversations in the café are however significant. Some regular customers of the Flemish popular café in the city of Aalst (at number 16) give their unvarnished commentary on the many nationalities that can be found in their district are. They also reminisce engulfed in times before the district by immigrants. Also in the African hairdresser - in French - fierce discussions about the hopes and disappointments of Belgium as the new Paradise.
"Carnotstraat 17 'is a documentary that large is not much new under the sun provides, but the portraits of immigrants are indeed fascinating and able to hit you. Hopefully it helps keep the discussion on immigrant issues nuance something.
