On that mission Banir reportedly lost their life, but Evan has never believed in that. And right now his younger colleague Milton Schultz (Anton Yelchin) suddenly proof in hand that gets Banir alive, Evan is told that he has not long to live, thanks to an aggressive form of dementia. Worse still, in the time he’s got left, he will be plagued by severe mood swings and hallucinations, making it not only for himself but also can be a danger to his surroundings. Not surprising therefore that when his boss anyway discovers his sneaky visits to the doctor (well, you’re boss by the CIA or not!), Evan is made inactive. “Dying of the Light” is looking for a typical B-movie easy way, even if you or by embarrassing dialogues, a thin plot and dragging on interacting Cage see it. At least, it seems that Cage is guilty of this, but perhaps it was in the version Schrader had in mind what was probably a lot gestoordere version, just appropriate. The premise is quite nice and “Dying of the Light” is still a long way with it, but at some point the stretch is just there and you can not conclude that there be a much better, or at least less dull film must have been in. Disease Evan Lake is used minimally, while correct that original part could create tension. Now that the film simply lacks the urgency, Lake’s nowhere you feel the need for mission. The flashbacks to Lake’s and Banirs earlier confrontation determined not help it. And in the end the film flies completely out of control. Sin. Would we ever get to see what Schrader really wanted to show with this film?
